Anurag Ghosh’s story starts with pure enthusiasm for gaming and content. He spent years writing for well-known gaming, technology, and app review publications. However, the traditional freelance grind rarely allowed him to build something of his own. In 2015, with his experience and insight into what new gamers struggle with, he decided to act. Playoholic was born—a site focused on beginner-friendly guides and straightforward tutorials for mobile games, complete with visuals and video breakdowns. What started as a simple hobby quickly gathered momentum. The content struck a chord with the growing mobile gamer community, who hungered for reliable advice without the overwhelming jargon found on bigger gaming sites.
Playoholic’s early days were, like many side projects, slow at first. Anurag stuck to a steady routine, consistently publishing new articles and updating guides as games evolved. Without funds for paid ads, everything depended upon organic visibility. Through careful keyword research (often using free tools like Google Keyword Planner and Ubersuggest), Anurag identified specific queries gamers searched for—'how to pass level 12,' 'best strategy for XYZ game,' or 'how do I get more coins in ABC app.'
He then created tight, focused articles answering these needs, ensuring each one included original screenshots and sometimes short gameplay videos hosted on YouTube. Over time, search rankings climbed. Playoholic reached a peak of nearly200,000 pageviews a month, all from organic and direct traffic. No flashy viral posts or social traffic spikes—just consistent, white-hat SEO and listening to the audience.
Monetization started small but grew as the audience did. Anurag plugged inGoogle AdSenseads throughout the site, picking placements that balanced user experience against earnings. Sponsored posts and affiliate links for select games and in-game purchases provided another layer of income. Over time, the website’s domain authority rose, attracting better offers from advertisers and increasing AdSense RPM.
By keeping the site focused on evergreen beginner content, Playoholic ensured a steady stream of new users discovering the guides year-round. This meant less work chasing trends and more focus on the long tail queries new players always have. The revenue became predictable, if not explosive—an ideal formula for buyers looking for a 'set and forget' content business.
After several years running the site solo, Anurag began thinking about new projects. The site’s stats looked great: a strong domain, high traffic, strong organic presence, and a global (but English-speaking) audience concentrated in the US, UK, and Canada. He realized that Playoholic was 'turnkey' enough that someone with basic content experience could take over and keep it running or scale it even further.
For the exit, he didn’t want endless negotiations or hidden fees. Flippa stood out for its straightforward listing process, transparent buyer network, and available advisors. With their help, Anurag created an in-depth listing—a walkthrough video, screenshots of analytics, revenue proofs, a detailed history. The listing quickly gained traction: in just ten days, it was viewed over a thousand times, picked up 41 watchers, and sparked 39 buyer conversations.
Unlike many site exits, this one happened fast. Thanks to clear communication and prompt responses (and Flippa’s M&A advisor Ashwin Almeida smoothing final negotiations), the deal closed for a five-figure sum that hit Anurag’s target. Both seller and buyer came away happy: the buyer acquired a proven asset, and Anurag moved forward with cash and freedom to pursue his next ambition.
Flippa’s support didn’t stop at the handshake—their escrow services and buyer management helped Anurag avoid common pitfalls, save countless emails, and ensure a secure transfer. In his words, the outcome“met all expectations,”and he now recommends Flippa to anyone looking to exit a content business cleanly.
The site continues to help beginner mobile gamers around the globe with the new owner's guidance. As for Anurag, he’s working on fresh projects—pushing into new content spaces and occasionally sharing lessons learned from the Playoholic journey with other digital entrepreneurs. All in all, the fast sale was not just a payday, but proof that growing a focused, helpful website can produce excellent results in under a decade—fully organic, no outside funding at all. Not only that, but with the right platform, a good listing, and clear numbers, a life-changing exit really can happen that quick.
