NUDIENT started as a small Stockholm outfit in 2016. Three friends launched a set of precision-cut phone cases meant to merge fashion and functionality. They kicked off on Shopify, then moved to a custom solution called Centra thinking it would speed global growth. Instead, it created a tangle of custom code, slow site performance, and missing integrations. When a complete rebuild loomed, the team reevaluated and made a bold decision: return to Shopify.
Migrating to Centra felt like building a house with a hammer you made yourself. The team spent nine months coding every feature from scratch. SEO vanished at launch, site speed lagged, and weekend crashes became routine. Integrations with emerging apps were locked behind long contracts or simply unavailable in non-Nordic markets. Each bug and each extra hour spent on maintenance pulled resources away from product development and marketing.
With help from Shopify partner Woolman, NUDIENT spun up a new Shopify Plus store. They consolidated 15 regional storefronts into one Shopify Markets site while preserving local currencies, languages, and inventory. Native tools like Shop Pay streamlined checkout, reducing abandoned carts. Automated content localization via Translate and Adapt opened doors to Japan and Korea. Klaviyo handled email campaigns, Gorgias powered customer support, and Search and Discovery unlocked upsell opportunities. Multi-inventory management and built-in analytics replaced manual reporting.
Rather than patching and rebuilding a custom platform, NUDIENT used Shopify’s ecosystem of plug-and-play apps to reduce total cost of ownership. Within weeks they shifted focus from debugging to driving sales, planning new product launches, and strengthening their brand experience across channels.
NUDIENT’s pivot back to Shopify proved that selecting a robust, well-supported ecommerce platform can make global expansion smoother and more cost effective. By leveraging native features and an app ecosystem that integrates out of the box, the team reclaimed weeks of development work, regained SEO momentum, and unlocked double-digit growth. Their story shows that sometimes the fastest path forward is on a platform built for scale.
