When Tropeaka launched in 2016, co-founders Caleb Marshall and Blake Mackenzie focused on crafting clean, organic nutrition that could challenge established gym supplements. Operating with a lean marketing budget, they needed technology that could grow without security headaches or costly development. Shopify immediately fit the bill.
By 2019, the brand was poised for expansion into business-to-business (B2B) sales in Australia and New Zealand. But scaling checkout traffic, handling rising order volume, and maintaining regional inventory accuracy became critical challenges. A robust solution was required to support both direct-to-consumer (D2C) and wholesale channels.
Upgrading to Shopify Plus, Tropeaka tapped into features like Shopify Flow and Scripts to automate tasks and deliver targeted cart incentives. With help from Shopify Plus partner Process Creative, they built custom checkout flows that applied discounts, free gifts, and cross-sell recommendations once shoppers hit defined thresholds.
A key part of the upgrade was creating dedicated wholesale storefronts for Australia and New Zealand, each integrated with the main inventory system. This eliminated manual updates and ensured accurate stock levels, allowing B2B customers to place orders without friction or errors in availability.
Armed with a scalable platform, Tropeaka launched their “New Year New You” sale in early 2020. Over three days, the brand handled thousands of concurrent checkout sessions and processed over $1,000,000 in sales without downtime. The seamless performance underscored the reliability of their Shopify Plus infrastructure.
By introducing free gifts and tiered discounts, Tropeaka raised their average order value from AU$89 to AU$94, adding AU$75,000 in monthly revenue across 15,000 orders. The flexible setup also unlocked ongoing flash sales, complex cart rules, and back-end automation to keep operational costs in check.
Tropeaka continues to experiment with new incentives, refine wholesale pricing, and explore subscription models—all on a foundation that scales effortlessly. Their journey demonstrates how smart platform choices and targeted automations can fuel rapid growth, both in direct and B2B channels.
