In December 2021, a Shopify store run by Gary Lim broke the $125K monthly revenue barrier. He focused on a single product line—budget smartwatches with advanced health-tracking features—and combined data-driven ad campaigns to scale quickly. This case study outlines his path from concept to consistent six-figure months.
Gary spotted that mainstream smartwatches cost $300–$500, creating an opportunity for an $80 alternative. He tested one model with daily ad spend near $1,000 and saw $2,000 in daily sales. Seeing high conversion, he added 15 variants but kept the star seller responsible for 80% of total revenue. He priced it at $80, pitching the same features at a fraction of the cost.
Using Shopify and the Pagefly page builder, Gary replicated the layout of top competitors to avoid lengthy design tests. He created a clear value proposition, highlighted real customer use cases, and optimized calls-to-action. Focusing on minimal distractions and simple copy delivered a landing page that converted up to 3× better than generic templates.
He split traffic 85% Google Ads, 15% Bing Ads. Google offered stable search intent and consistent click-through rates, while Bing provided untapped volume at lower cost per click. After proof of concept on Google, he mirrored campaigns on Bing with minor budget shifts to boost total ad impressions.
To avoid budget caps on top keywords, he duplicated high-performing ad groups into fresh campaigns and relaunched them as “new” products. This trick unlocked extra impressions without triggering automated spend limits. Over time, he optimized keywords, paused underperformers, and doubled down on winning search terms.
In December 2021, the store logged $126,852.76 revenue after $4,064 in refunds. Total ad spend was SGD 75,273.20 (US $53,001.64), leaving an estimated gross profit near US $73,851.12 before merchant fees. By the first quarter of 2022, quarterly revenue hit $815,570.77—averaging over $407,785.37 per month.
This journey shows how focused product research, smart store design, and a clear ad plan can create a reliable revenue engine. Replicating proven tactics, testing budgets responsibly, and protecting store health from returns will help you pursue similar growth.
