In early 2017, Oz Hair and Beauty faced a common issue: every small website tweak needed developer time. With thousands of products, uploading a new line could take days and updating the checkout was even slower. That slowed growth plans for a brand that wanted to scale fast.
Oz Hair and Beauty had built a custom ecommerce site to reflect its salon heritage and premium products. But every update—new design elements, checkout tweaks, or product uploads—went through an agency or in-house developer. Costs mounted while updates piled up. They knew they had to free the team from constant coding cycles.
After evaluating options, the team picked Shopify Plus. The promise was clear: an intuitive interface that let non-technical staff add products, change page layouts, and optimize checkout without touching code. It also came with a robust app ecosystem, easy integrations, and enterprise tools for reporting.
Migration started with exporting product data from the old system and cleaning up categories. Then the team set up a new theme on Shopify, mapped all SKUs, and tested checkout flows. Within weeks they could upload 15,000 items, test endless aisle options, and configure click-and-collect in minutes.
Next, Oz Hair and Beauty introduced Shopify POS in each new location. Store managers clicked a button to deploy hardware, set tax rates, and sync inventory. In just 18 months the brand opened 7 stores across Sydney and Melbourne, boosting in-store sales from 5% to 20% of total revenue. The system give faster updates once sometimes data lagged during peak hours.
With Shopify Markets tools for international sales, the brand translated its storefront, updated currencies for New Zealand, and managed all orders in one dashboard. No new developer tickets were required for currency or region settings.
By moving off a custom system and onto Shopify Plus, Oz Hair and Beauty slashed development costs, sped up site updates, and fueled rapid retail expansion. The unified platform gave them control, flexibility, and growth tools that kept pace with customer demand.
