In 1998, David Rivers launched KegWorks from his Buffalo apartment, driven by one simple vision: to offer enthusiasts and professionals a one-stop online destination for draft beer dispensing equipment. Over two decades, the business expanded into a robust multi-channel retailer selling kegerators, bar rails, glassware, cocktail ingredients, and a wide range of bar accessories.
As KegWorks grew, its self-hosted solutions on X-Cart and later Magento strained internal resources. Frequent code updates and maintenance diverted focus from marketing and merchandising. The team needed a platform that was intuitive, scalable, and self-sustaining—one that would allow them to concentrate on driving growth rather than wrestling with infrastructure.

During the 2020 pandemic lockdown, B2C sales surged as home enthusiasts stocked up for at-home entertaining, and BigCommerce’s performance remained rock-solid under the added load.
