Grassland Market began as a storefront for US Wellness Meats, a producer of grass-fed beef and pasture-raised pork. The team ran daily sales on Clover but hit limits fast. Stock counts went off-book, customer sign-ups stayed trapped on clipboards and spreadsheets, and the Clover system simply couldn’t feed the data they needed to grow locally.
Clover handled transactions but fell down on analytics, marketing integration and accurate inventory levels. Managers spent hours reconciling stock, marketing promos ran blind, and there was no way to tie loyalty sign-ups back to actual sales. Those gaps stopped the team from launching curbside pickup or any kind of local delivery service.
After a year on Shopify Plus for ecommerce, the team chose Shopify POS for the retail space. They spun up a separate store to match different in-store and online pricing, then exported product data—SEO details, tags, images—to avoid rebuilds. Shopify POS plugged into their existing marketing platform so sign-ups happen automatically at checkout. Inventory synced in real time across channels, giving store staff and managers one single source of truth.
Inventory count errors dropped dramatically, freeing up staff time. Marketing data flowed directly into their email platform, eliminating manual work and boosting sign-up rates. Sales and customer insights popped out of Shopify Analytics, so they could target local promos and track top buyers. Best of all, the team built a foundation for online ordering and curbside pickup for shoppers within a two-hour radius.
With Shopify POS firmly in place, Grassland Market plans to enable local online shopping and same-day pickup at their store. Next steps include curbside drop-off and possibly direct local delivery. These features promise to cut shipping costs for neighbors and drive even more foot traffic to the retail hub.
