Derek Rose, a family-owned British label since 1926, built a reputation on luxury pyjamas and leisurewear. When the brand ventured into its first permanent store in 2016, it quickly saw direct-to-consumer retail as the next growth frontier. The goal was clear: extend their Feel-Good Living philosophy beyond products to a seamless in-store vibe that matches an online experience.
Before Shopify, Derek Rose ran payments on Vend (now Lightspeed) hardware that sat outside its ERP. Associates battled random stock errors, lacked a unified view of online and offline inventory, and couldn’t track shoppers across channels. Fixing mistakes cost hours. The bulky hardware clashed with a brand aimed at relaxed elegance, and marketing suffered without customer profiles. To scale new boutiques within months, they needed a single platform to bring website and store data together—fast.
After replatforming its website to Shopify, the team rolled out Shopify POS in London stores. Native omnichannel meant every sale, online or in person, fed into the same system. Stock lookup pulled items from other boutiques or the web, so a sold-out product in one store could still be ordered instantly for pickup. Customer profiles merged online orders, in-store purchases, and even wishlists into one timeline, giving sales associates all touch points at a glance.
They opted for mobile POS Go terminals with built-in scanners and card readers to roam the shop floor, alongside countertop POS Terminals with sleek customer displays. Now assistants can wrap gifts at the till, then bring them straight to a sofa or bar area where customers relax over a drink—no line-ups, no friction.
With Shopify’s intuitive UI, Derek Rose opened two new stores in just three months. Onboarding took days, not weeks. Sales teams found tablets and terminals easy to use, and the integrated training materials in Shopify Compass accelerated confidence. Within a week of launch, every associate was acheiving cross-sell targets by offering web-only stock in stores.
By syncing every channel into one dashboard, the brand saw immediate impact:
Time spent troubleshooting dropped to zero, freeing teams to focus on hospitality and styling. And as Shopify rolls out new features, Derek Rose plans to add local delivery, curbside pickup, and more loyalty enhancements without missing a beat.
